ESAC Photoclub Exhibition...

What had started as a chat over coffee early last year finally came to fruition today, as the club opened its first ever photographic exhibition.

The theme chosen was 'LandSeaSky' and has motivated 23 members of the club to present their images which they thought best represented this theme. The results is a great diversity of images from all over the world, both from above, and below sea level, and we all hope they will be of great interest to the rest of the community at ESAC.

The canteen was chosen to host the images as it is probably the only building where most of the site members visit throughout the week, thereby maximising the viewing potential of the exhibition.

Our idea is also to produce a small brochure detailing the images and linking them to the photographers, this will then be made available to everyone in one format or another.

We really hope this will be the first of many further events and we are really excited and proud with what we have achieved.

The club would also like to formally thank site services for all their help and their amazing ability to adapt to any situation that has appeared along the organisation of this event.

In closing, I would like to ask any visitors to the exhibition to feel free to use the blog and leave comments as it's always good to hear the opinions of everyone.

My final thank you goes out to all the club members who have participated and helped out with this event, without your enthusiasm and dedication this event would have been unattainable.

PHotoEspaña 2011...

PHotoEspaña 2011 has started this month and you can get all the information regarding participants, events and galleries here.

Madrid Foto announces dates...

MADRIDFOTO starting on the 5th May will be in Pavilion Number 1 at IFEMA.

With more than 5,000 sqm exhibitors from as many as seventy international galleries, publishing houses and journals will participating.

MADRIDFOTO is the only international fair in Spain specialized in contemporary photography, and is designed to encourage new private, corporate and institutional collecting.

PHotoEspaña 2010...

The 13th edition of this international festival of photography began on the 9th June and will finish on the 25th July.

This year the common theme is 'time' and there are 69 exhibitions with works from 372 artists from 41 countries, along with various events to promote photographic art amongst the populace.

MADRIDFOTO 2010...

MADRIDFOTO, is the only fair in Spain or Portugal specialising exclusively in photography and audiovisual art and opens today at the Palacio de Deportes in Madrid.


The fair will consist of more than sixty stands installed in a total space of 4000 m, apparently, special attention has been made with respect to the functionality of this area, and I quote, "ensuring that it is easy to negotiate and dotted with areas for taking a rest, socialising and exchanging opinions".

The 12th is VIP/Media day, with the rest of its duration being open to the general public, entrance fees are 15 Euro's at the box office or 13 Euro's if you buy online from the MADRIDFOTO website.

Looks like it could be worth a visit..

MADRIDFOTO...

Following the resounding success of Paris Photo and Miami Photo, MADRIDFOTO is the only international contemporary photography fair in Spain focusing on private, corporate and public collections.

MADRIDFOTO will be showcasing 47 national and international galleries targeting a new brand of photography collector. Several publishing houses and specialist magazines will also be contributing.

The work of 230 artists will be available for viewing in pavilion 6 at IFEMA. The fair is scheduled from the 7th to the 10th May and according to the architect Andrés Jaque "the exhibition hall has been designed to ensure a pleasant and comfortable experience for visitors, while making sure than the works on view at the stands of the various galleries are seen to their best effect".

Photography night (PHE08)

Dear all

As you all now, PhotoEspaña 2008 started last week and there are plenty of exhibitions all around Madrid (and Cuenca, you always get surprised by that city).

Within its activities there is a "photography night" (Noche de la fotografía) taking place next friday 13th of June, including a photo marathon with both cameras and "shoebox cameras"... I think it is worth to have a look.

"Ocultos"

Hi all.

The "Círculo de Bellas Artes" opened yesterday an exhibition called "Stellar moments of the 20th century photography" (free translation from the spanish title :) ), including pictures by Cartier-Bresson, Robert Capa, Riefenstahl, Man Ray, Andy Warhol, Marina Abramovic and many others. I haven't visited it yet, but sounds interesting. Just for you to know.

PHotoEspaña 2007 has started....

The annual image festival in Madrid has started and being as it is the 10th Anniversary there even more exhibitions and activities than normal.

I have already been to see the images made by Sebastião Salgado in the BBVA (AZCA) building and they are stunning.

I've also downloaded the press kit in pdf, which contains all the info on which exhibition is where. If anyone wants a copy let me know.

Another exhibition...

As a further addition to the blog entry from Ricardo, there is also another tattoo related exhibition at the 'Casa de América' in Madrid, called 'Maras'. Providing a insight into the world of young prisoners in El Salvador jails who use their tattoo's as a form of self expression.

FYI:
Javier Ortiz, "Pachi", exhibits a series of photos portraying tattooed people called "Tattoos Tuus".

You can have a look at it (and a beer :) ) at La Maripepa, c/ Jesús, 7, in the Huertas area, Madrid.

I visited it last weekend and I found it quite interesting.
